Dylan Thomas | Man & Myth Exhibition

Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea

This 2002 exhibition aimed to explore the life and work of Dylan Thomas in a dramatic and intriguing way, utilising a large collection of objects that had previously been held as a private collection.  Much of the collection is paper-based and light sensitive and had previously not been displayed in ideal conditions - this exhibition allowed these objects to be re-displayed in museum-grade cases with suitable lighting and conservation measures.

The design solution was to create a ‘black box’ display to allow for dramatic, but controlled, lighting. Large scale wallpaper graphics where used throughout. The perimeter of the exhibition focuses on Dylan Thomas the man with a chronological display charting his life and work while the inner, more intimate area of the exhibition focuses on the myths that have built up around the man. The exhibition didn’t shy away from some of the more controversial aspects of Dylan’s life and death.

Working for Haley Sharpe I was the lead designer for the project.
