Quarr Abbey

Isle of Wight

For the Quarr Abbey Visitor Centre project I was the 3D designer and project manager, working in association with Bivouac, from concept to on-site delivery.

This included creating design concepts and developing them, producing sketches, detail design drawings (CAD), written specifications and detailed production schedules, designs for low-tech physical interactives, designs for a new bookshop, liaising with the client and contractors, attending site during the installation period, and snagging the completed works.

The project included an interpretive exhibition and bookshop within a restored stable block and interpretation throughout the grounds, including archaeologically sensitive areas.

The design used strong, simple structures to reflect the ethos and lifestyle of the monks, taking some inspiration from the architecture of the abbey. The graphics, designed by Bivouac, were bright and bold around the perimeter of the exhibition, reflecting the topics - the landscape, gardens, wildlife and the more public aspects of the monks’ lives. The style became more muted and reflective in the inner space to reflect the monk’s spiritual life and work.

The project was led by Bivouac. All images © Bivouac
