Museum in Docklands | River, Port & People

West India Quay, London

Museum in Docklands opened in 2003 and is now Museum of London Docklands, part of the Museum of London. The Museum is housed in a Grade 1 listed early 19th Century sugar warehouse on West India Quay.

Working for Haley Sharpe, I was the senior designer for the project, leading a team of designers to create 12 galleries telling the story of London’s docklands from the first Roman settlement on the Thames to Dockland’s regeneration. This included designing displays for a wide range of objects - from river boats to whale bones, a gibbet cage to WWII gas masks - developing interactive exhibits, scenic recreations of warehouse scenes and commissioning scale models.

I also designed “Mudlarks” children’s gallery, telling the stories introduced in the main galleries in an interactive and playful way.

The project was for Haley Sharpe Design. All iImages courtesy of HSD.
